You’re excited. You start. Things do go quite as you
thought. You want to quit.
Most people start a new business or project and quit after a
few weeks or months. Infact 90% of people fail. BUT if you have a strong enough
reason to do it, then if what you’re doing doesn’t work initially, you’ll
figure out some other way.
First thing to do is figure out your ‘why’. Once you
understand this, it will give you your staying power when things go wrong and
when others criticise and complain.
People in your life will be threatened when you make a push
for success. They will criticise, complain, tell you it’s wrong, they wouldn’t
be doing what you are.
Why?
Because their life is a mess and miserable and they don’t
want to see you do well.
So, how do you get your ‘staying power’?
You need goals and a BIG enough ‘why’- this will be the
reason you keep going.
Finding the real ‘why’.
It’s not just about the money. It’ll be something stronger,
something you want to get away from, something you REALLY want.
Here are some questions to help you find your ‘why’.
What gets you REALLY excited?
What problem scares you to death that money could solve?
If you had more money, what HUGE problem would go away?
Other than money, what are you looking for?
Here are some reasons people have given that may help you
get to your ‘why’.
One guy, Bill, wanted more than anything to have more time
to spend with his growing family. He worked hard and had a good income to
provide his family with a good lifestyle. The problem was he worked far too
many hours. When he came home at night his children were ready for bed, he’d
missed their open evenings at school, missed playing ball with them in the
evening. His wife was tired at having to do everything in the house, look after
the children, and so they had little time as a family. However, family holidays
were great, lavish resorts, the sun, the sea, but this couldn’t make up for the
lost time during the year. He was determined to find another way. One day a
good friend of Bills showed him a business opportunity he was involved with. A
way of making a residual income. Bill liked the idea so much he could hardly
sleep. He learned everything he could about the business, read books, went to
meetings. It was tough at times, not everyone was as enthusiastic as Bill, but
his ‘why’, his ‘goal’, kept him going and on to become one of the top sales
guys in his network.
One female Lucy had a big ‘why’. As a child her mother had
always told her that she was useless and would never become anything. One day
Lucy painted a picture and gave it to her aunt, who had told her that the
picture was wonderful and that Lucy would do well in life. Remembering the
words of her aunt, Lucy was determined to be someone, to be successful, to
prove to her mother that she wasn’t useless. This was a big enough ‘why’ for
Lucy who went on to run her own successful business after two failed attempts.
She had a goal in life that was so big that nothing was going to stop her.
Take the time to really think about your ‘why’. Write it
down. Whenever times get tough, whenever you feel like quitting, read it and
remember ‘why’ exactly you are making a change.
